MICROINVERTERS

null
Microinverters are installed directly behind the module, harvest more power and are easier to install, monitor and maintain, especially in the urban partly shadowed environment. They combine ultra-reliable components with a distributed architecture that makes for a more resilient power plant.

Higher yield per module

Microinverters are not limited by the lowest performing module in a string and are proven to produce more at dawn, dusk and in low light conditions.

Better return on investment

Total cost of ownership is lower and ROI is better with microinverters than string inverters when considered over the lifetime of your PV installation .

Flexible and reliable

Microinverters are shadow tolerant and allow for easily scalable systems that provide ultimate reliability with a design life of over 25 years.

A PERFECT INVERTER FOR THE BUILT UP ENVIRONMENT

As the solar industry matures, in addition to large-scale open fields more and more small-scale complex roofs are equipped with solar energy systems. Today, even building integrated (BIPV) systems are starting to be competitive alternatives in some scenarios. But from an inverter perspective the built-up environment poses challenges, like complex shadows and orientations.  Challenges that can’t be met with string inverters or optimizers.

That is why we developed our XSX micro-inverter, which outperforms traditional inverters in terms of yield per module, flexibility, safety and reliability.

Microinverter

  • No need for string sizing
  • No expensive DC wiring required
  • Design changes in field are easy
  •  Highest yield per Wp
  • No single point of failure
  • >25 year system lifetime
  •  Max. DC voltage < 60V

String inverter

  • String design required
  • Expensive DC wiring
  •  Design changes in field are complex
  •  Yield depends on string
  • Single point of failure
  •  Max. 12 year lifetime
  •  High DC voltage of up to 1000V on roof

String inverter with optimizers

  • String design required
  • Expensive DC wiring
  •  Design changes in field are complex
  •  Yield depends on string
  • Single point of failure
  •  Max. 12 year lifetime
  •  High DC voltage of up to 1000V on roof

Microinverters: The smartest choice

  • More cost effective

On the surface, string inverters seem like a good deal. Add up the costs and you get a different story. If you get onsite and have to run extra conduit to move the inverter out of direct sunlight, costs escalate. Or, if the homeowner wants the inverter moved for aesthetic reasons, costs go up again.

    String inverters also require:

    • 2 conduit runs (AC + high voltage DC)
    • Mounting a string inverter and DC optimizers
    • Surprise cost overruns if inverter can’t be mounted near the service panel
  • More production

Third-party studies have shown that Autarco microinverters produce more energy than the leading string and DC-optimized string inverters.

    • Autarco produced up to 3.1% more than the leading DC-optimized string inverter.
    • Autarco microinverters are proven to produce more at dawn, dusk and in low light conditions.
  • Safer installation

String inverter systems have high voltage DC, which presents risks for customers and installers. String inverters can have “rapid shutdown” workarounds to lower the risk of high voltage DC, but these only mitigate some risk. They do not fully remove it. Microinverters, by contrast, are low voltage DC by design.

    • String inverters require potentially dangerously high voltage DC on customer’s roof
    • String inverter may remain charged even after rapid shutdown is activated
  • More reliable

Compared with string inverters, microinverters are the least failure-prone choice by a mile. When string inverters fail, the entire system goes down, necessitating emergency maintenance. This costs money and diverts installers from doing what they do best: installing systems.

THE FIRST INVERTER WITH BUILT-IN Z-WAVE

logo-z-wave-e1393781437934The Autarco XSX300 microinverter is the world’s first solar inverter with built-in wireless Z-Wave functionality.

Z-Wave is far more reliable than WiFi and it is the leading protocol for wireless machine-to-machine (M2M) communication and internet-of-things (IoT) applications. It easily integrates in the Autarco Smart Home platform and other Z-Wave products.

CRADLE-TO-CRADLE DESIGN

All other microinverters have a so called “potted design”. This means that the internal chamber of the enclosure is filled with an encapsulating compound which effectively makes the entire product a solid block.

The Autarco XSX microinverter is designed with the crade-to-cradle philosophy in mind. It’s PCB is coated with a layer of transparent conformal coating rather than potting. This more modern technique is lighter and easier to inspect, test, and repair. It also allows all durable materials to be 100% recyclable.
